Bodybuilding introduction.
Bodybuilding is the procedure of improving and increasing muscle tissue. This can be achieved, in a long term, with a
combination of weight training, rest and specialized diet enriched with food
supplements.
Bodybuilding pages have been included on this website for three reasons. The first one
is, because this activity can be a part or the base of a fitness plan, providing health
safety is not compromised in favor of competitive gains. The second reason is that we
intend to address and emphasize the risks which are involved because of the use of
drugs associated with bodybuilding. Finally, the
third reason is that we want to focus on bodybuilding supplementation products that can be used
with safety, providing this is done according to a specialist's advice.
By many people bodybuilding is considered unhealthy activity, because it has been
associated with abuse of anabolic
steroids and other drugs.
Although bodybuilding has not been recognized by the international Olympic Committee as a
sport, competitive bodybuilding is considered as such by a lot of people and plenty of
contests take place worldwide. Bodybuilders display their physique to a group of judges
who assign points based on the athlete's esthetic appearance.
There are certain physique standards that bodybuilders have to reach in competitive
bodybuilding. The contest requires proper proportions of different parts of the body and
it is not just a matter of large muscles. Bodybuilders follow a specific sequence of
poses to show their physique in front of the judges. This is why bodybuilders, apart from
weigh training, devote significant effort in performing these poses while
practicing.
Contesters are not judged for their physical strength. Thus, bodybuilding has nothing to
do with competitive weight lifting which is an Olympic sport.
In the 1980s women began to participate in bodybuilding contests. However, they often
encounter difficulties, since the judging standards for women bodybuilders change nearly
every year. Apart from that, according to the public notion, bodybuilding may distort
feminine physique and young girls are often discouraged by their environment to get
involved with this activity.
