Gel-tray based teeth bleaching kits.
You may find teeth whitening either performed or supervised by your dentist quite pricey. If you do, bear in mind that there are some good alternative options on the internet. You will be able to find teeth whiteners equivalent to your dentist's stuff. In fact, the only realistic reasons that have allowed dentists to enjoy a monopoly on professional teeth whitening are two. The first one is that prior to the internet era no information or advice about teeth bleaching was broadly and easily available to the public. The other reason is the legislation that permits only dentists to take impressions of other people's mouth. However, no law can prevent a person to take impressions of his/her own teeth, and make personal and accurate mouthpieces. Having the trays and the bleaching gel you can proceed and have your teeth whitened with safety, providing you will take the necessary simple precautions.
It is pointless to say that you should keep your trays, after the course is over. This includes the teeth whitening mouthpieces that your dentist may have produced for you. In the future, you will save money by making only refill orders without any trays.
As it has been mentioned already, you can find online bleaching gels tantamount to your dentist's stuff in terms of efficacy and safety. There is a range of products and the concentration of the bleaching agent varies between 3 and 10.5% of hydrogen peroxide or from 10 to 35% of carbamide peroxide. It has to be explained that the latest substance is a chemical precursor of the first one. Strength of 3% hydrogen peroxide is equivalent to 10% of carbamide peroxide.
The NovaWhite and the Teeth Whitening Express systems.
The NovaWhite and the Teeth Whitening Express are perhaps the two leading systems in the market. Both of them provide teeth whitening preparations of 22% carbamide peroxide equivalent to 6.6% hydrogen peroxide. Because of their strength, these products are very effective and the first signs of improvement can be seen after the very early sessions. Actually, such concentrations are found in gels used for teeth bleaching courses performed at home, under a dentist’s supervision. In fact, the method that both systems follow is pretty similar to this procedure and it is characterized by three phases. These are the stage of self-impressions that are taken by the customer and sent back, the creation of personal mouthpieces in the lab and the bleaching course. The latest is executed in daily sessions and usually lasts two weeks.
How to take the impressions. Before you are ready to improve your smile, you have to do something else. As soon as you receive the complete kit, among others, you will find a pair of plastic trays and a special material for impressions. Try the trays in your mouth. Usually they are of a medium size and they fit well. They should feel slightly loose and the inner side of the front wall of the tray must touch the external side of the front teeth. If the tray is too small, its walls will collide with your back teeth and prevent you to apply it properly. If it is too big, the tray will not fit to the front teeth and perhaps, when you force it inwards, it may make you feel sick. In a case that the trays are not the correct size for you, contact the merchant.
Follow the instructions and by using the trays and the material take one impression for each jaw. Activate the material, put it in the tray and apply it into the mouth. Press steadily with confidence. Your teeth will start diving in the material. Push, until you feel that you cannot go any further. While taking the impressions, it would be better for you, if you turn your head slightly forward and breathe deeply through the nose. This will prevent you to feel sick. It is strongly recommended for you to take the impressions with an empty stomach. Check the material with your fingers and do not remove it, before it sets. As soon as you finish, you post the moulds in the prepaid envelope.
Why is the above stage important? Perhaps it is a bit of hassle for you to take your own impressions but this is the only reliable option. By sending the mould to the lab you transfer an accurate copy of your mouth. This will help a qualified technician to make a pair of accurate mouthpieces for you. This is the critical point. A proper mouthpiece will prevent any significant bleaching gel leakage towards the gum and keep the stuff around the teeth. Thus, the soft tissues in the mouth will remain healthy and without irritation, whereas the teeth will start progressively getting brighter.
About the thermoform offhanded mouthpieces. Unlike to other methods, the NovaWhite and the Teeth Whitening Express procedures are not based on offhanded mouthpieces. It is true that many self whitening gel-tray systems provide a thermoform material which if it is placed in boiling water gets soft and flexible. After that, you can put it in your mouth and you can make two customized trays for each jaw by pressing your fingertips on your teeth. As soon as the stuff gets cooler again, it becomes rigid and you have the trays that you need to start your whitening course, without having to wait the lab to prepare the final mouthpieces for you. This method sounds very convenient but it presents major drawbacks. With the thermoform trays you will waste much of your whitening gel, without receiving the best results, and it is very likely for you to irritate the gums or other part of your mouth or you may end up with a sore through. As a matter of fact, the NovaWhite kit contains two pieces of thermoform material in a case you want to follow this method. Don’t use them, unless you are desperate and you want to have a slightly lighter smile within the following three or four days.
What happens after I take the impression? Within one or two weeks, you will have the mouthpieces and you can start the bleaching phase.
If you choose the WhiteNova system and you want to minimize the lab response period, you can choose the urgent shipping and processing option.
Before you start, please read our Precautions & Indications for Teeth Whitening page. As soon as you are ready, add the bleaching gel in the mouthpieces and apply both in the mouth. The amount of the gel must be enough to cover each tooth individually but by no means should overflow the edges of the mouthpiece. Otherwise, you may end up with disappointing whitening results or with sore gums, respectively. In order to minimize or to avoid any sensitivity to cold or hot, be patient. Start with fifteen minutes sessions. If you do not experience any problem, you may prolong your sessions. It doesn’t matter if the total course takes a bit longer. Safety and comfort come first. Remember to rinse your mouth well after each session. If your teeth are prone to sensitivities, use a good toothpaste for sensitive teeth two weeks before the bleaching course, during the course itself and two weeks after that.
Our opinion. On the merchants’ sites, apart from the 22%, you will find teeth bleaching preparations containing 35% carbamide peroxide, as well. We believe these are too strong and you should not try them. Such materials are better to be used only at the dentist’s office and not at home. After all, the 22% stuff is one of the strongest and most effective in the market. In fact, we are not surprised that the trader is so confident about the product's excellent results that he provides a thirty day money-back guarantee.
